SUMMARY:How To Engage Parents and Carers in Addressing Sexual Harm
DESCRIPTION:The “How To” series focuses on exactly that …. How To.\nThese informative and practical 3 hour webinars aim to equip participants with both knowledge and skills to be able to implement strategies in their own casework\, care\, education or therapeutic setting. \nThis webinar focuses on one of the most important\, but challenging aspects of intervention with children and young people who engage in harmful sexual behaviour – engaging parents and caregivers. \nWe know that parental (or caregiver) involvement in treatment is essential for both maintaining safety and promoting wellbeing\, and so it is essential that we understand the impact on and responses of parents to the identification of sexual harm in their family\, and that we approach engagement through a lens of understanding and support. \nIn this webinar we will explore common parental responses\, identify dynamics that hinder engagement and explore strategies for promoting positive engagement.

SUMMARY:How To Address Sibling Sexual Abuse within the Sibling Relationship
DESCRIPTION:The “How To” series focuses on exactly that …. How To.\nThese informative and practical 3 hour webinars aim to equip participants with both knowledge and skills to be able to implement strategies in their own casework or therapeutic setting. \nThis webinar will introduce you to a framework for intervening in sibling sexual abuse that focuses on promoting accountability\, communication\, and reparation through a joint therapy process\, introduced early in treatment and which involves both the sibling who has engaged in the harmful sexual behaviour and the sibling who has been harmed. \nThree stages of therapeutic contact will be explored: \n\nNaming the problem (acknowledgements)\nLearning about the problem (clarification)\nBeing healthy and safe (consolidation).\n\nLinda will use the images\, words and stories of the children and families that she has worked with to introduce participants to a range of therapeutic interventions and to provide an opportunity to consider the issues that can emerge.

SUMMARY:How To Develop Safety Plans (For School\, Home and the Community)
DESCRIPTION:The “How To” series focuses on exactly that …. How To.\nThese informative and practical 3 hour webinars aim to equip participants with both knowledge and skills to be able to implement strategies in their own casework\, care\, education or therapeutic setting. \nRisk management or as it is often referred to\, safety planning\, is a misunderstood concept and in the pursuit of “safety” we often apply restrictive and generalized strategies without consideration to the specific and unique vulnerabilities for the children we are supporting. \nThis webinar will introduce you to a structured process of safety planning which focuses on analysis of the child’s behaviour to guide supervision and support strategies. \nUsing different settings (home\, school\, community) you will learn how to identify vulnerable relationships and interactions\, situations/environments where the child might be more likely to engage in further behaviour and identify triggers (emotional and situational) that may increase the potential for further harmful sexual behaviour.  Using this insight\, you will be able to individualize your  strategies to decrease the potential for behaviour and to increase supervision and supports when needed.

SUMMARY:How To Evaluate and Respond to Sexual Behaviour of Children and Adolescents
DESCRIPTION:The “How To” series focuses on exactly that …. How To.\nThese informative and practical 3 hour webinars aim to equip participants with both knowledge and skills to be able to implement strategies in their own casework\, care\, education or therapeutic setting. \nThis webinar will focus on core knowledge for anyone who works with or cares for a child or adolescent.  You will be introduced to a framework for evaluating sexual behaviour and interactions and we will explore a way of responding to sexual behaviour that focuses on communication\, empathy and accountability (which just happen to be core components of healthy relationships and interactions). \nWe will review what we know about the sexual behaviour of children and adolescents (i.e. what are they getting up too?)\, discuss the impact of pornography on sexual development\, and using case examples you will have the opportunity to practice evaluating behaviour and interactions and developing responses (i.e. what you want to say and do).
